Project Description.

The residential complex is located in a densely populated neighborhood in the Viale Certosa area of Milan, overlooking the new Portello site. The area of the property is about 1900 square meters after the demolition of the existing low industrial buildings, it was decided to rebuild the lot through the construction of several interconnected building bodies. The result is an original reinterpretation of the classic courtyard typology, formed by buildings of different heights facing a common courtyard and with lateral crossings of volumes. The buildings were designed by providing a precise articulation of volumes and overhangs, designed in such a way as not to disadvantage any dwelling unit with regard to overlooks, to allow shading in summer and irradiation in winter of most interior rooms, and to obtain the best thermal comfort also through the aid of systems for solar refraction and natural ventilation. The careful study of openings according to orientation promotes the entry of natural light into each dwelling. The red color constitutes a characterizing element, as opposed to the pietra serena that covers all the lower part of the buildings. Serene stone was chosen as the natural element, which was used for common floors and interior pathways. The balcony fronts, on the other hand, were made by creating custom concrete formwork laid in place.
